Sanam Luang, the large, open field in front of Bangkok's Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew has been used as the site of Thai Royal ceremonies since the time of King Rama I (reigned from 1782 to 1809). From Royal birthdays to cremations to agricultural fertility ceremonies, the grass stretch of Sanam Luang has been host to many important Thai events.
