The many traditions related to the Thai New Year festival of Songkran revolve around bringing good luck for the coming year. Buddha images are bathed and food is donated to monks while prayers for prosperity quietly circulate in the heads of the devotees.

At Wat Phra Singh, a steady stream of worshippers meanders to the feet of the Buddha image sitting outside the temple. Scented perfume is tossed liberally and constantly onto the image – if it could swim, it would be able to wade through the air.
