It served as a home to the British army until World War II where the hill was used as a base of operations for forces attempting to defend the island from Japanese Invasion. The Japanese, once they had occupied Singapore, also used the fort for its army.

Today, a primary draw for visitors to the hill is the Battle Box, the bunker used by the British army that now serves as a museum detailing the history of the war in Singapore.

At Boat Quay, a huge stretch of restaurants serve up every possible cuisine. Memorials to those fallen in Singapore's conflicts stand silently in Esplanade park. Museums and concert halls spread culture through the area. Statues tell tales of Singapore's past including a tribute to Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore, at his landing site behind the Ancient Civilizations Museum.

Beaches, restaurants, golf courses, amusement park style attractions, and a pink dolphin show are among the many activities in store for visitors. This island, the southernmost point of continental Asia is also home to the Butterfly Park and also the impressive Underwater World Aquarium.

My favourite attraction, however, was the miniature golf, but I suspect it was the good company I had while playing that made it so enjoyable.

Surrounded by the Suntec City complex of shopping malls and office buildings, the fountain is meant to be a source of good luck for those who circumnavigate the interior portion of the waterworks three times (when the larger streams are not pummeling the ground with their flow). At night, a laser show dances through the mist created by the spraying fountain.
